The new Honda CR-V – a sensible type of SUV for car buyers who don’t need a ‘lifestyle’ SUV – has been with us for more than a year, so a limited edition model is called for to keep up footfall in Honda’s showrooms. That means Honda resorting to the tried and trusted route of monochrome specials with the CR-V Black Edition and CR-V White Edition with cosmetic tweaks for a bit more presence and extra kit for a bit more comfort. Both the Black Edition and White Edition get 19″ Orion alloys, exhaust finisher and privacy glass, a new patterned grill, tailgate spoiler, running boards and skid plates front and back.
IT’S BEEN announced that 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button will return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 26-29, where he is expected to provide one of the event’s star attractions. Button is no stranger to the Festival of Speed and has attended 14 times previously, driving machinery as diverse as a 1970 Can-Am McLaren M8D, a P1 supercar and Alain Prost’s 1986 title-winning grand prix car. This year, McLarens attending the event include M23, MP4/2 and MP4-26 Formula 1 machines.
The Audi A3 e-tron – a hybrid A3 EV based on the A3 Sportback – will debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show as a concept. This Audi A3 e-tron isn’t a pointless electric supercar – like the R8 e-tron – or another rollout of the A3 e-tron BEV, but a hybrid A3 with a proper ICE engine coupled to an electric motor, just like the A3 e-tron concept we saw in Shanghai in 2011
That still means a lot of complicated and heavy technology to game the silly official economy tests and come up with ‘official’ economy figures of 158mpg and 35g/km, but the A3 e-tron would – if it were made – offer big tax breaks for company car drivers. The A3 e-tron gets a 1.4 litre direct injection petrol engine good for 148bhp working with an electric motor good for an extra 100bhp.
